work tomorrow

Hi there.

Some time since my last post, but I'm doing very well here. The weather is everything that I remember it was before I went to Storrs. Being in New England for 4 years really made me forget how wonderful being warm is. Even now in the end of August is around 90F every day. This weekend, first of September, I will be spending some more time by the ocean. Good. Good.

You can (!) pick up the phone and call me... it's called Skype. A free of charge software on the Internet that allows you to speak with someone that has a computer and NET. You need a headset, but they are not very expensive. For more details you can talk with Jakob. He uses Skype to talk with his family in Denmark and we already talked since I'm in Portugal. Ana is also on-board with this technology. www.skype.com

The country it's in a very long, stress-free, relaxed, June-July- August-first 2 weeks of September- pause for vacation. I will start working tomorrow… Friday. Which means that I will go there to put my stuff on the desk, and leave for the weekend. LOL. It’s a good life. I know, I know. It's not my fault is it? So don't hate me because I'm... Portuguese : )

Looking for a house still, even if I rented one for the next couple of months. Still looking for that magical place where I can see myself living in the next years. Small, cosy, well decorated, in the middle of the city. When I find it I will know that is the place for me.

And I know that you guys are full swing there in America. Keep up the good work! I will... try to do the same in here ; )

Best wishes.

Back… with a tan!

Hi there!

Hope all is going well that side of the pond. In here, time is moving slow in this month of August. I already have my working “papers” starting the first of September, and until then I’m just chilling out.
Still looking for a nice apartment in Lisbon, something that I can call “home” for the meantime. Still trying to get the boxes out of customs which has been a bigger headache that it should. And still looking for that special girl… ; )

Signed up to Dr Ratmess football fantasy league, which makes me feel a little bit more “American” than all I have here in Portugal. At least I can lose against Nick and Dan over and over again for my great chagrin. Maybe I can win against Disa, if she forgets to change her lineup : P

Classes are almost starting there, right? It is strange to think about live at HPL, and knowing that I’m not a part of that routine anymore. Well, that is how things are.

Keep up the good work, people. Good things wait for the “brave at heart”!

bathing

Hi there!

“Going bathing”.

That is a Portuguese tradition. Now is my turn to maintain that tradition, that comes all the way from the time of the kings in Portugal (and no, I’m not talking about your ancestors, Dan).
Therefore for the next week, I’m paying “old debts” and returning to my favorite beach in Portugal and remember how it was a year ago, when I was preparing for my comps.
So, until my return, keep up the good work…wherever you are.

my baby!!!

Hi, other side of the pond.

Things are going very well here. Apart from the wonderful weather (today was 94 F), my boxes arrived from the US. I don’t have them yet, of course. The foreign affairs department are behaving like they never got boxes from the US, and therefore there are a set of procedures that are agravating, but apparently necessary. Will have them by Monday. I hope. Bah! Well, one of the good things is that on the boxes are all the papers that I need to finish my dissertation paper. Yeah!

My car is ready to pick up from the shop. Yess! Love my car. And what an engine! Even after four years, when I started it, it was roaring and ready to go. When idling it purrs like a kitten. No wonder, it’s a Ford, and American brand (made in Portugal, but ei, whatever).

Here is a photo of a similar car (mine is even more sexy!). Like the owner. Ehehhehe.

Go Barry! Keep up the pace. Good things await!

Good news!!!!

Hi all.

Some good news from this side.

The requisition for my transfer to my new position was OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED!! Yeahhhh!

This means that starting the 1st of September I will assume the position of Head of the Research Department at the University Stadium of Lisbon. It sounds very pompous and extensive, but I’m very happy to assume this position. It will be a very “comfortable” position and with the potential to do some very good things in the area of Exercise and Health science “made in Portugal”.

The negotiations to go work at the Lisbon University are in stand-bye… Ei, its August here, and during the entire month no one works. And I mean no one. ; )
